BERNARD BONINBURGUNDY, FRANCE
Domaine Bernard-Bonin is a 7 hectare domaine formerly known as Michelot Mère et Fille. This all white domaine grows Chardonnay in either Meursault or Puligny-Montrachet. The youngest vines of the estate were planted in 1972 and most of the plots have vines over 60 years. The wines boast a true sense of place, offering terroir-driven, artisanal examples from some of the Côte de Beaune’s finest vineyard sites. These include Premier Cru Meursault Les Genevrières and Charmes-Dessus, and Premier Cru Puligny Montrachet La Garenne and Les Folatières. They also produce a small range of Meursault Village wines from Clos du Cromin,
Limozin and Les Tillets.
Véronique Bonin and Nicolas Bernard took over the run of the estate in 1998 with a view of doing something more authentic.
The couple follows traditional and Biodynamic methods and the Domaine is certified Organic since 2015. Embracing a minimum intervention approach in the vineyard and winemaking, the wines are aged in oak barrels (approx 25% new) for 15-18 months, during which time each barrel is tasted individually to determine the optimum exchange between wine and sediment. The wines are racked from their lees just before bottling, in synchronisation with the lunar calendar, to ensure a naturally limpid and stable state, thus avoiding fining and filtration. Once in bottle, the wines mature on the micro-sediment that develops naturally.
Bottled with minimum sulphur.
